Hoover U5140-900 Tempo Widepath Bagged Upright Vacuum Best Quality

I purchased this vacuum after having a fairly decent experience with another inexpensive Hoover product, the Flair. I chose this instead of a replacement Flair because the cord was longer. The cord, it turns out, is the one good feature of this completely worthless hunk of plastic.
My chief complaint is that this vacuum cleaner spits things out of its backside. I have to believe that mine was a defective model, because it stands to reason that Hoover - a company synonymous with vacuum cleaners - would realize that debris is supposed to be sucked up safely into the little bag, and not spewed at my ankles. But no. The little brushes were just so fast, god love them, that the suckage could not keep up with them and there I was with a trail of sand.
My second complaint is that this vacuum is really, really loud and makes an awful high-pitched noise. I have vacuumed around my 18-month-old son since he was born, and he has never had a problem with the noise. But when I fired this thing up, he froze, his eyes grew wide with terror and he and the cat ran out of the room. I don't like to frighten things.
My third problem is the color. It's just ugly. But really I should have known that because it is true to the picture in the description. I am just mad because I am returning the stupid vacuum and now I need to pack it up and haul it to the post office, and my son has been hiding in the box it came in so now I have to take away his fort on top of all the other vacuum related trauma he has experienced. Happy now, Hoover? Get more detail about Hoover U5140-900 Tempo Widepath Bagged Upright Vacuum.
