A Dyson Animal was recommended by everyone, but sticker shock sent me to the library and consumer reports. After researching the reviews and receiving a great suggestion from the reference librarian to order from Amazon, "little blue" arrived at the doorstep.

This vacuum sucks up everything with ease, including dog hair from a chenille couch. Another huge plus was the self-propelled action - although self-propelled is not listed as a feature of the vacuum. The machine literally wants to move along by itself. No more dumping a bagless canister 1/2 way through the house as this filter does not clog with pet dander. Still on the original bag after 1 month of usage, vacuuming ever 3rd day.

The shorter power cord does require some strategic planning on when/where to switch outlets; and the vacuum is noisy, so plug in your ipod before starting!

I purchased this vacuum after having a fairly decent experience with another inexpensive Hoover product, the Flair. I chose this instead of a replacement Flair because the cord was longer. The cord, it turns out, is the one good feature of this completely worthless hunk of plastic.

My chief complaint is that this vacuum cleaner spits things out of its backside. I have to believe that mine was a defective model, because it stands to reason that Hoover - a company synonymous with vacuum cleaners - would realize that debris is supposed to be sucked up safely into the little bag, and not spewed at my ankles. But no. The little brushes were just so fast, god love them, that the suckage could not keep up with them and there I was with a trail of sand.

My second complaint is that this vacuum is really, really loud and makes an awful high-pitched noise. I have vacuumed around my 18-month-old son since he was born, and he has never had a problem with the noise. But when I fired this thing up, he froze, his eyes grew wide with terror and he and the cat ran out of the room. I don't like to frighten things.

My third problem is the color. It's just ugly. But really I should have known that because it is true to the picture in the description. I am just mad because I am returning the stupid vacuum and now I need to pack it up and haul it to the post office, and my son has been hiding in the box it came in so now I have to take away his fort on top of all the other vacuum related trauma he has experienced. Bagged! As someone with pretty bad allergies, I know that a bagged vacuum almost always wins out over a bagless when it comes to rereleasing dust into the air. But for some reason, the bagless craze (which is all about convenience) has made it pretty difficult to find a good, inexpensive bagged vacuum. But this is one!
Price! This is a VERY inexpensive vacuum for the quality of product. I bought my first one a year ago, and it is still going strong. When my downstairs vacuum dies, I plan to replace it with another one of these.
Power! Plenty of suction, and I have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a kid to clean up after. This thing does the trick.
Cons:
The cord is too short. I wish it had a longer cord because in my huge family room, I do have to unplug it and move it to get the entire room vacuumed.

i have been extremely frustrated by my last several vacuum cleaners over the past several years. although they were highly rated by consumer reports, they were poorly made and unreliable. planned obsolescence seems to be back in style. it should not be necessary to buy several vacuum cleaners in just a few years.

this unit is not exciting or loaded with features, but it is simple, effective, and (best of all) reliable so far. it is also lightweight and more compact that i expected, making it easy to maneuver and carry up and down stairs.
