This vacuum cleaner works fine as long as you are not planning on using the cleaning tool to any extent. First of all the hose is only 3 feet long and made of cheap, stiff plastic. If you stretch it in the least bit while using it, the vacuum cleaner will tip at an angle and can cause damage to your carpeting or flooring due to the fact that the roller is still rotating! Also, stretching the tool hose can cause the vacuum cleaner to move near throw rugs, drapes, bedding etc. and the rotating brush will pull the fabric in. I researched vacuum cleaners and came upon this one in Amazon. After reading the reviews, I figured for $60 and free shipping I'd give it a try. First let me say, I have carpeted floors and 3 cats. I can't attest to hardwood floors. This is an amazing vacuum for the money. Yes, it's a little loud (but who cares?) and yes, it's cheap looking with the plastic front but the suction! I read a review where a woman said keep children and small animals away from this vacuum cleaner. She had it right! I also have a Oreck. This vacuum out-performs the Oreck in terms of lifting the carpet, suction, and cleaning. No cat hair! A little heavier than the Oreck but not an issue. The suction is so good that I have to remember to change the bag more often. That's saying something. Actually, we compared vacuumed carpeting side-by-side - Oreck vs. this little Hoover. I used to swear by my Oreck but this little Hoover won out. I've made sure to have the Oreck serviced about once per year. Each service costs me $75. Needless to say that won't be happening any longer. No issues with the attachments. I bought this to replace my Hoover Flair after moving to a bigger place. The main thing I noticed about this vacuum is the power; the first time I turned it on it started dragging itself forward. It pulled out so much crap from my carpet that I went through 3 bags the first time I vacuumed it. After that I go through about a bag a month (I vacuum weekly).

My main complaint is that it's not that maneuverable, making it hard to get into crevices and corners. It comes with a set of attachment tools, but they're a bit of a hassle to use and keep falling apart, plus the hose isn't that long. It's not too much of an issue for me because I don't have a lot of furniture to maneuver around. The construction also feels kind of cheap, as a lot of it is made of plastic.

Overall this is a good product with excellent value. As another reviewer said, this seems to be a Hoover Windtunnel minus bells and whistles, but who cares as long as it sucks dirt out of your carpet. I've used it for a little over a month and have not had any problems with it so far. The vacuum itself is not too difficult to use. However, when I got the unit from Amazon, the tabs for the door housing the vacuum bag were damaged.

I was able to use it by somehow attaching the door to see how well it cleaned. It's not too bad, but I wasn't as excited as some of the other reviewers appear to be. Cleaning on bare floors is just the same as with some other vacuums. Even with the bare floor setting, it kept spitting back some of the dirt on the floor.

Cleaning on carpets is better, but it didn't remove all my dog's hair, and I still had to check the carpet to remove some manually.

It doesn't have a neat way of coiling up the cord.

It's not as easy to clean stairs as I'd have liked since the unit is fairly heavy.

On the plus side, for the price, I think the unit is adequate though. It did seem to do a relatively decent job on my carpet and I really liked how the carpet looked especially when I moved the unit toward me when vacuuming.

If my hopes had not been too high as a result of some of the reviews, I'd have probably liked the unit a whole lot better.

I do have to say that Amazon's return policy has been very helpful so far. They shipped me another unit to replace this. I'll be sending the original one back tomorrow using their RMA label.

This is an excellent vacuum for *carpeting*. It has possibly the best vacuum action of any model or brand. However, because of its tremendous suction and not being self propelled, the unit may be a bit too much for some users because of the slight extra effort needed to move around. Pulling backward is a bit harder than moving the vacuum forward. This may not be a good choice for individuals who already have difficulty manuveuring a vacuum. I find it very easy to move around and I think most others will also.

On *bare floors*, this machine is fair at best. It will suck up well but it tends to scatter some debris because of the rotating brush. It is not designed well for bare floor cleaning. I accept it because of the excellent carpet cleaning. Cleaning the bare floors is not so bad. It just takes some extra time to go back over the areas that need it.

The on-board attachments; limited cleaning functionality. The hose is short which limits your reach. A hose extension would solve this limitation. Otherwise, all the needed basic attachments are right there on the vacuum.

The vacuum is lightweight and requires an inexpensive, common type "Y" vac bag. It has a gauge to indicate how full the bag is and to assess the vacuum action. An adjustable height control on the front base of the machine requiring hand adjustment. Some reviewers fault it for a short cord but I do not. It certainly is not longer than the average. This is a non-issue with me.

This vacuum deserves a 6 star rating for carpet cleaning but it does have limitations in other areas. My carpets have been revived by using this machine. It's vac action pulls up the carpet fibers, releasing any dirt lodged beneath and between the fibers. When done, the carpeting looks nearly as if it was recently installed. The initial first 3-4 vacuumings (500 sq. ft.) filled up 2 different bags. Not that we have a dirty house, but what the previous vac didn't get (which is a good vac also). I have been totally amazed how well this machine cleans a carpet.

This vacuum is a piece of garbage. I would say that it arrived broken, but that is not really accurate. On their own, all the pieces are fine. No specific piece was broken. The pieces just do not fit together. Specifically the bag area cover. In order for the device to function it needs to be an air-tight seal. But the piece is too small. And not just slightly off, it is no where close, almost as if it were designed for a different unit.

Obviously hoover was aware that the piece did not fit, and just did not care. At first I was confused why the part was taped in place. Then when I removed the tape and the who thing fell apart I understood.

Yes, duct tape is great. In a few years when the thing starts falling apart, I may choose to use duct tape to hold it together. But if your products require duct tape to keep it from falling apart before they leave the factory floor, you are in desperate need of a new QA department. I hope who ever at Hoover thought it would be ok to let a bunch of units(I now see that I am not the first to report this problem) out the door held together with tape looses their job over this.

I was originally going to buy the more expensive hoover, but after reading reviews i went with the much cheaper tempo. When it arrived i put it to good use and found how well it sucks. It is powerful and now i have to be careful with the throw rugs and other objects around the house.

It is also light and somewhat small. I simply place it in a closet and leave it there till next week. I love how easily it picks up dirt and objects around it. The cleaning wand easily disconnects to use it. Plus there are two extensions. Even when using two extensions this vacuum could pick up peanuts and other food items after some march madness parties.

The only criticism i can offer would be on the cord placement. This vacuum has a shorter cord that what i am used to, and also the placement of the cord on the back of the vacuum will make it get in the way. I simply take the cord all the way off each time.

I bought this vacuum, immediately tried it, did not like it, and tried it again almost 3 weeks later just to be sure.

Pros:
*After one time of vacuuming, my apartment carpet floor is cleaner than I have ever seen it before. (No need to go over the same spot multiple times). --And I have a short haired cat that sheds a lot. (which was piled up on my carpet, leftover from my old vacuum).
*Unofficially self-propelled. Maybe not technically, but the brush is so strong that when I leaned it against my stomach in the on position, it pulled itself forward and vacuumed for 3 feet, moving away from me while I stood still.
*Cleans fairly close to my walls.
*Light weight and easy to lift when off.
*I read reviews that said the cord or attachments kept falling off while stored or vacuuming, but I did not have this problem.
*No bad smell; loud, but not intolerably loud.

Cons:
*It is much harder to pull it backwards (as is done in basic vacuuming). Very comparable to when you are walking a large, excited dog, it pulls you forwards, but it is hard to pull it backwards. My arm was tired after cleaning half of my small living room.
*I only briefly used it on bare floors, right by my front door, but it kicked the dirt back onto my carpet.

I plan to return this vacuum to the store, but will consider buying it back again if my next top 2 choices do not work better. (All of the top recommended vacuum cleaners, including this one, have drawbacks).

I bought this due to the many good reviews. I find it to be sufficient but nothing special.
The best thing I like about it is the brush does a great job of standing the carpet fibers up, making the carpet look nice. It also has nice filter system that does make dust fly all over. Otherwise it keeps up as well as any other vacuum. But what I don't like is, the wide path does a poor job of picking up on the edges, the bumped out edging seems a waste. What I don't like the most is the hose, it is very cheap plastic that when I use it to vacuum under the fridge or stove etc, it twists up at the top and crushes in enough that the suction fails and you have to turn it off and pop the collapsed part back out, I am thinking of putting duck tape on it before it fails completely. The hose doesn't reach as far as my old vacuum either. I have to pick the vacuum off the floor to vacuum the ceiling edges. We have had our Hoover U5140-900 Tempo Upright Vacuum for 4 years. The price was so low that we didn't expect much, but were pleasantly surprised. It works very well and has lasted. This is one of those rare products where we got more than we paid for.

If your floors are mostly carpeted, this is a good choice, especially if you are on a tight budget. If your home has little or no carpet, this is not the best choice for you. This is not that effective on hard, non-carpeted floors.

It seems to be made mostly of plastic -- not surprising for the low price. It is lighter weight than average upright vacuums, but not as lightweight as the stick-type vacuums. I thought it might break if a kid dropped something heavy on it, or if it fell down the stairs. So far, we've had good luck; and if it does break, it will be inexpensive to replace with a new one.

We mainly use it for wall-to-wall carpeting. It has a height-adjustment lever that should be changed when going to a different height carpet. We are careful to set the carpet-height-adjustment lever so that the vacuum head is not too low, which I think would strain the beater-brush and-or belt. When the carpet-height-adjustment is set too low, I can actually feel a little resistance; it takes slightly more effort to push the vacuum.

We also are careful around small lightweight throw rugs, because an edge can get sucked in, and then the entire small rug is getting pulled up; causing a jam and which could probably cause the belt to break, and can also damage the small rug if it pulls some threads loose. We immediately hit the off-switch at the first sign of trouble.

We have not had to replace the belt yet, which surprises me. I expect most vacuums will need a belt change with time, because rubber seems to decay; maybe it varies with climate. I have dealt with broken belts, on other vacuum brands / models, when something got tangled in the rotating beater-brush and jammed it -- things like an extra-large paperclip that got mangled, a long piece of yarn, fringe from a small lightweight rug that got sucked in. Belts are inexpensive to replace, and it's easy to find replacements for a popular model like this.

There are several optional attachments, which clip to the sides or back of the vacuum for storage, so I don't have to go looking for them. These attachments include extension hoses and specialized vacuum heads for upholstery, for hard surfaces, and for narrow crevices.

Dose a good job of cleaning the carpet, and it's lightweight makes it easy to push around. Also it dose a good job of keeping the finer particles in the bag and not releasing them back into the air as our old vacuum did. The Hoover Tempo Widepath vacuum is a good value in general. It has great suction and picks up dirt and pet hair left behind by other vacuums. The suction is so strong it pulls the cleaner forward making for a more difficult job of vacuuming. The cleaner itself is cheap and poorly designed in terms of hooks for the cord and places to store the extension wands. It's the noisiest vacuum I've ever used. I know, I know. Terible joke. But seriously, this vacuum cleaner is awesome. I have a neighbor down the block who had this annoying chihuahua who would leave "packages" on my lawn, and one afternoon I took a casual stroll by this jerk's backyard with my handy U5140-900 in tow, and.......PFFFOOOOP! Needless to say, my lawn is now spotlessly green. The Hoover works fine with small rodents, such as mice and weasels, but I find that is struggles with animals cat-sized or larger.
