I purchased this vacuum from Amazon in July 2008 (for $69.99) and was expecting a decent vacuum based on the reviews here. I am one of those people who previously owned a Hoover Windtunnel vacuum that lasted me a good 10 years before it flew up to heaven. So I was expecting Hoover quality.

Amazon shipping was fast and this vacuum came and worked okay considering the price. I used it to vacuum my two bedroom home (approx. 1200 sq. feet) every other week. I followed directions and cleaned it regularly. The suction was good, though the bag filled up too quickly. I had to change the bag every time I was done vacuuming. It was excessive to change bags so often, but I figured that it was alright considering the suction I was getting.

Other reviewers are correct, in that this vacuum had a cord that was way too short. I had to unplug and replug the vacuum several times when vacuuming my living room because the cord was just not long enough to reach. (The cord on my vacuum was a little less than 23 feet long.) I was going to write a glowing review of this vacuum when I reached my 1 year mark. But alas, that was not to be.

Today (5/31/09), while vacuuming my hallway, it started to smell like there was an electrical burn. Smoke was coming out of it. I quickly unplugged it and opened all my windows. I have three large dogs and two cats. I tried two different bagless vacuums but neither seemed to pick up the fur very well (I think fur clogs the filters). I also hated empting the canister everytime and picking the fur out by hand.

This vacuum worked very well! Pulls all the fur out of the carpet in one pass. Yea! The bag does fill rather quickly but its easy to change. It does ok on hard floors... picks up the fur fine but throws the larger particles around.

There are only two things that I think could be improved. The power cord is rather short. It's a little annoying to have to keep changing outlets. The other issue is that even with the two extension wands I can't reach the ceiling to vacuum cobwebs. For the price though, it's a great vacuum!

I have yet to find the perfect vacuum cleaner, but this Hoover model gets 4-stars from me for dependability, durability and price.

This vacuum has better suction with a full bag than many other vacuums I have owned had with an empty bag. The on board tools and ready to use hose make for easy cleaning along base boards and other hard to reach places.

There are things that could be improved (for me, these are minor and not enough to stop me from recommending this vacuum to you without reservation): 1. Weight. This vacuum is rather heavy for toting up and down stairs. 2. Area rugs. It would be nice if there was some way to vacuum large or small area rugs with this vacuum without it eating them. 3. Cord placement. The power cord comes out near the bottom of the unit in the back, and I do find myself stepping on it too often and tripping myself up.

The things that really make this the best vacuum I've owned in a long time (I've owned it now for over 2 years without any problems) are: 1. The allergen filter and bagged system. I have dreadful allergies, and I tried a bagless vacuum before and I will never try that again. I do not end up sneezing and feeling miserable after using this unit. 2. Tool location. The hose and tools are easy to get at and to use. 3. Price. I have never tried one of the really expensive vacuums, but this one does everything I need it to do with great dependability for a very small price.

The Tempo does a great job on my carpets and floors...I have no complaints on that aspect. Easy to adjust the height feature, the cord pretty much stays out of the way if you run it up and tuck it under the hose that is secured at the top near the handle. It has a nice long cord and the light is a great feature. I don't find it does real well along the edges, but for price you can't have everything! After using the vacuum only once, the belt broke, which I found really strange. Anyway in order to change the belt, you have to UNSCREW the bottom plate to get to the belt. I don't know why they don't just use the clips they previously had that swing out so you can easily remove this plate. For a temporary solution to the Hoover belt, I used a Rug Doctor D70 (the only one they had at a nearby Kroger for a Hoover upright). It worked fine, but I did order the Hoover belts from Go Vacuum.com (great place for your bags and belts! Good prices and FREE fast shipping)! I like the allergen bags very much! All in all, it's a good vacuum for the price! I purchase everything I can from Amazon, they are just wonderful about helping any way they can to correct any issues you have! Ok, this is an edit of my original review, that is why you see a 5 star rating. I now give it a 3. I was going to return the vacuum after just a month of using it, but endend up keeping it... In that month the brush belt broke twice. Each replacement belt set of 2 in Hoover is 10 dollars so it seems quite expensive. However, after the last time I changed the belt it has worked very well for over a month. The reason the belt breakes often is really simple. You need to be very careful with the way you set the belt. If it is a bit out of place it breakes. Also, the metal spin that holds the belt is not well chromed or polished. If you are able to touch the spin it feels like it has small grains. What happens is that as the belt turns to move the brush it is constantly filed by the spin and it breaks. So you need to set the belt propperly to reduce friction. Also, when you vacuum you need to get any long thread that might wrap itself around the brush out of the way, because this will burn the belt. Shoelaces, threads, a long piece of yarn or a thin belt will get stuck and burn the brush belt. If you clear the way of all these objects your the vacuum's belt will last longer.

I chose this after using an Eureka canister mighty boss. I used to have an apt with hard wood floors so I did not need more than a low weight vacuum. Now that I moved to an all carpet place I needed something with more power but at a good price. I think this is the best vacuum at the best price. It is a very good upright, and the problems I see have to do with being an upright... For example, not being able to go under furniture and it is heavier to move around than my old canister, etc. Thus, they are not issues of the machine, but of the type of vacuum it is, since all upright have these issues. It is not to bad to push, pull and move, but since I had a tiny canister, I think I am biased on the weight issue. The only thing I don't like is that it is a bit more noisy than what I expected. It is not as bad as a Shopvac, but it is on the noisy side. Other than this it is a good value for the money.

You just can't beat the price to value ratio for this vacuum cleaner. I bought the vacuum cleaner 2 years ago and wanted a bagged upright. I had previously had a bagless unit, but hated emptying the canister because it would just get dust all over the place. The bag for the vacuum cleaner acts as both a bag and an air filter and every time you replace the bag, it's also like replacing a new air filter. That being said, I really don't feel any difference in air quality.

The only con to the unit is that the rollers don't stop spinning when you use the attachments. Since I hardly ever use the attachments, this is usually not an issue. People complain about how noisy the unit is, but it's a vacuum cleaner, so that was expected.

After 2 years of use, I found that the rollers stopped spinning when it hit the carpet. It would spin when the vacuum cleaner was off the carpet, but would stop when it hit the carpet. It took me a while to figure out that the belt was just stretched out too much, so after I replaced the belt, it was as good as new. You can get the belt on Amazon for really cheap assuming you have something else to buy to get the free super saver shipping. I never review anything when I first get it. I use it for awhile. Because it looks nice and runs when I turn it on doesn't make it a great machine.
This definitely a good deal. I am a church janitor so it gets lots of use.
-It arrived at my door ahead of schedule.
-It really sucks. As long as it isn't in the lowest position it edge cleans very well. This is just suction of course so if it is set to low obviously it can't edge clean.
-The 25 foot cord was to short so I cut it off and added about 15 feet. You wouldn't want to add much more though or else the cord will get to hot when it runs for an hour or more at a time.
-The on board tool holders hold the tools very well. I don't think I have ever lost one off of it and had to pick up like seems to happen with many vacuums.
-One thing that isn't good about it is the bag full indicator. It's a joke. But it doesn't matter to me because I carry up and downstairs by the handy carrying handle built in over the bag holder. It doesn't take long to figure out that when it starts to get heavy the bag is getting full. It's easy to open and check, too.
-The last vacuum I had and one of the others I still use when my wife steals the new one is a bagless. I wouldn't take a truck load of bagless vacuums if they gave them to me. The filters are always plugged up. They talk about how great they are because they are so easy to dump without making a mess. They don't mention the mess cleaning the filters make. Besides the huge dirt canister on most of the bagless makes impossibe to get under low stuff.
-I think they should have a dimmer switch on the headlight because it will momentarily blind pets hiding under stuff from the vacuum.

Dont be fooled by low price! I use flex hose for crevices on stairs and furniture. Since flex hose is too short, the unit tips over. Adding the long hard tube to the flex hose is very awkward. i did my research and read a lot of good reviews for this vacuum. i really wanted to like it, especially for the price, but it doesn't work on bare floors.

i don't have carpet but wanted a good affordable vacuum for the floors and upholstery. i really needed the vacuum to be able to pick up fine particles and sadly, fleas - i'm waging a war on fleas even though my cat stays indoors. it's extremely hot and humid here and fleas just thrive. part of the flea treatment was to sprinkle salt on the floor and vacuum it up. the vacuum didn't pick it up, and just spread it around at high velocity - i could feel the particles hitting my feet and ankles. very disappointing.

We have enjoyed this purchase. Great performance at a great price. Also, others have commented on the loud noise it makes; however, I don't hear a problem at all. It sounds like a normal vacuum to me. We bought this vacuum to replace a bagless Bissell model, which we absolutely hated. The Bissell got clogged constantly. It was annoying having to constantly clean out the whole interior of the vacuum before each use. We are SOOOO happy to have a good 'ol bagged Hoover again.
